Naperville cops have slipped to #2. Slackers.

--------------------------------------------------------
Naperville slips to 2nd in state DUI arrests
City in top 5 every year since 1990

May 22, 2008Recommend

By BILL BIRD wbird@scn1.com
Inebriated drivers were considerably less likely to be pulled over and arrested last year by Naperville police than they were in 2006.

But it might not be that local police have become lackadaisical where driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics is concerned. Because even though DUI arrests here fell from 808 in 2006 to 683 last year - a decline of nearly 16 percent - that was still good enough to earn Naperville a second-place ranking in an annual survey of more than 700 Illinois police agencies released Wednesday by the Schaumburg-based Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists.

TOP FIVE
Top Five Illinois police agencies making DUI arrests in 2007:

1. Rockford 715

2. Naperville 683

3. Carol Stream 527

4. Buffalo Grove 501

5. Peoria 452

Source: Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists, Schaumburg

Naperville police were edged out by their counterparts in Rockford for the top spot. Rockford police made 715 DUI arrests last year, according to AAIM statistics.

Still, Naperville police have made the top 5 every year since 1990, the first year AAIM began keeping track of DUI arrests. Naperville ranked No. 1 in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006 and came in second in 2003, with just four fewer DUI arrests than were made by police in Waukegan.

Police departments following Rockford and Naperville in AAIM's 2007 Top 10 included Carol Stream, Buffalo Grove, Peoria, Waukegan, Springfield, Hanover Park, Rolling Meadows and Skokie.

Chicago, because of its overwhelming population and status as the largest city in Illinois, has its own AAIM category.

AAIM considers DuPage and Lake counties to be the strongest in the state in DUI law enforcement. Thirteen DuPage County police agencies made AAIM's 2007 list, as did seven from Lake County.

Naperville police Cmdr. Dave Hoffman said Wednesday he had not seen the AAIM survey results and thus could not comment on them.

Police Chief David Dial said last year that getting drunken drivers off city streets continues to be a priority for his department.

"We have more people killed or injured in traffic accidents than all other crimes combined, and it is a significant safety issue for Naperville, and we will stay on top of it," Dial said last year.

© Copyright 2008 Digital Chicago, Inc. | Terms of Use • Privacy Policy • Submission Guidlines

--------------------------------------------------------Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09452099019411771645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8103066117797350031.post-18182955700444485132007-12-20T00:43:00.000-08:002007-12-20T00:47:12.313-08:00New Year's Eve in NapervilleWanna win a $25 gift card? Some of them are sitting on tables in entryways, some are by the cash register, some are posted on bulletin boards. Most of it has pretty limited appeal, but every once in while you find stuff that's actually useful.

Take a peek at what's available the next time you walk into a place like Potbelly's or Anderson's Bookstore in downtown Naperville. You might be surprised at what you find.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09452099019411771645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8103066117797350031.post-65021894439237676672007-11-12T13:02:00.000-08:002007-11-24T12:35:24.446-08:00H-mart in Naperville!A Korean supermarket in Naperville? COOL! Super H-Mart is in the spot where Dominick's used to be at Ogden 6 Mall. If you go there wanting to try something new and have absolutely no clue what to buy, I'd recommend these items:

a. Korean/Japanese ramen noodles that comes in its own bowl - way better than that Maruchan ramen crap they sell at Jewel.

b. Pre-packaged 자짱면 ('ja jahng myun'). Easy to make and the bag comes with two servings. 자짱면 is found in "Chinese" restaurants in Korea. See, Koreans have their own version of Chinese food just like America does. 자짱면 is basically noodles with black bean sauce. Sounds weird, looks weird, but with a little rice vinegar and chili powder, it's really good.

c. Korean pears. They're huge and brown... peel them because the skin isn't very good for eating, but the pear itself is really good. Way better than the green pears most Americans are used to.

Items A & B are basically considered Korean junk food, but going to a Korean grocery store for the first time can be a pretty confusing experience. If you start with simple stuff, you might want to get more adventurous the next time you go.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09452099019411771645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8103066117797350031.post-68242610168911884362007-10-16T23:52:00.000-07:002007-10-17T00:16:58.160-07:00Naperville, IL: Reality TV breeding ground?<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GcdecvoLnLw/RxW2Z10FTGI/AAAAAAAAAAo/ZuRxgGmv3vM/s320/gina_glocksen.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122200706262322274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GcdecvoLnLw/RxW2Z10FTHI/AAAAAAAAAAw/Z8DcAdTjghQ/s320/nicole_dambrosio.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122200706262322290" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_GcdecvoLnLw/RxW2aF0FTII/AAAAAAAAAA4/sL3HfgAgr2k/s320/jesrickleff.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122200710557289602" />
Is it just me, or does Naperville seem to be churning out reality stars with amazing regularity? First (that I can remember, anyway) was Gina Glocksen on American Idol, then came Nicole D'Ambrosio on The Apprentice, and now we have Jessica Rickleff, the *winner* on VH1's Rock of Love! Dang. How many suburbs can claim that much fame? Not many I imagine.

Not only that, what's really notable is how well our famous girls have done on their respective shows. Jessica ('Jes') was the outright winner of ex-hair-band-star Bret Michaels' affections (he was the lead singer of Poison in case you've intentionally blocked the 80s from your memory), but Gina was also a top contender on Idol and Nicole came very close to being Trump's Apprentice.

Who's next? My prediction: a Survivor contestant! Just watch, it's gonna happen eventually because that that show just refuses to die.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09452099019411771645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8103066117797350031.post-19913013086727679842007-10-05T03:24:00.000-07:002007-10-05T03:29:16.897-07:00Naperville is cool!A lot of people, particularly ex-suburbanites who have transplanted themselves in Chicago proper, like to roll their eyes at Naperville. Pffft! They scoff now, but when they start popping out the babies they'll be ooohing and ahhhing over the Naperville school system and all the family-friendly stuff that goes on week after week. Eye-rollers, succumb now! Save yourselves the embarassment!Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09452099019411771645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8103066117797350031.post-19438869829277555292007-09-12T03:12:00.000-07:002007-09-12T03:16:55.555-07:00What exactly is "unincorporated Naperville"??One of the great mysteries of the universe...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8103066117797350031.post-58223957214143242182007-09-06T00:22:00.000-07:002007-09-06T00:27:46.065-07:00Man I used to LOVE the Last Fling when I was a teenager

I still like it, but for different reasons now. They're way better - if you don't believe me, just try them! If there was a restaurant in Naperville that served nothing but frozen chimichangas, I'd be there every single day!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8103066117797350031.post-57950734500388219732007-08-20T13:00:00.000-07:002007-08-20T13:08:37.472-07:00Downtown Naperville Noise?

I can see why people would be mad about noise in downtown Naperville, but it's DOWNTOWN NAPERVILLE! If I'm not mistaken, it was made free so that shoppers would be encouraged to go downtown instead of to Fox Valley mall. Good move, City of Naperville.
